Out, loud and proud at Manchester Pride

Staff from Salford City Council will be ‘out, loud and proud’ at this year’s Manchester Pride 2009.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) festival is now in its 19th year. Funds raised go to LGBT and AIDS/HIV charities and groups.
Running until Monday 31 August, this year’s festival has a superhero theme.
From 1pm this Saturday, a Salford float will be travelling through the streets of Manchester. This has been designed by young people who access Salford Youth Service.
There’s also a council stall within the festival that with be awash with lots of information about our services and pink goodies to take away.
Staff from across the authority will be flying the flag, ‘loud and proud’ that they work for Salford City Council.
This includes members of the staff LGBT group, Salford Youth Service, Fostering and Adoption and Sustainable Regeneration. Volunteers from the Customer Contact Centre will also be on hand to raise awareness of council services and to promote the council as a diverse employer.

Do you presumably support the practice of homosexual perversion John - despite the incontrovertible and well documented tragic consequences which ensue for homosexuals (and the burden placed upon broader society)?

Your article refers to AIDS charities. Gays wouldn't get AIDS if they didn't engage in the homosexual perversion. Therefore: Don't you think it would be a good idea to stop encouraging the homosexual perversion?

I find it offensive that Richard seems to think that gay people with HIV and AIDS have only themselves to blame for their perverted practices. He seems to have failed to notice that HIV and AIDS is now more prevalent amongst heterosexuals. More than 64% of all people living with HIV are in sub-Saharan Africa, as are more than three quarters of all women living with HIV. Sub-Saharan Africa remains by far the worst-affected region; many of those affected are children younger than 15 years of age.
I am unsure if Richard believes that people living in the African continent also engage in perverted practices or is his bigotry aimed only at Homosexuals?
What about hemophiliacs or people who have contracted HIV through contaminated blood products? Are they perverted?
As a lesbian I don’t feel I suffer any tragic consequences due to my homosexuality nor am I a burden on society, quite the contrary in fact. I see myself and many of my gay friends and colleagues as worthwhile members of society who have a valuable contribution to make.
Finally, lesbians and gay men are…
daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, grandparents, uncles, aunts, in-laws, foster parents, adoptive parents, carers, cared for, friends and workmates…
Some of them may live next door to you, Richard! Unfortunately.

I find your comments disgraceful, i am truly gobsmacked, not only that you have these views but that you feel justified in publicly expressing them. Have you given any thought to the impact your hurtful comments will have to those who are gay or who have loved ones who are gay? I suggest you keep your horrid views to yourself in future. I am not gay and yet find your comments disgusting.

I think Richard may be in the closet!

The only way you'll get Richard Carvath in a wardrobe is with a beautiful and willing young woman!

I don't think gobsmacked even begins to express my feelings.

Thankfully Mr. Carvath's comments and he himself are irrelevant. He clearly has no grasp of the makeup of the community he would wish to serve. A very large number of his prospective constituents come from the LGB community and are, in the main, supported by their friends and families.

It is comforting to know that this man will be ignored by the electorate.

Sorry for the lateness of this comment but I've only just seen this.

Regarding: "The only way you'll get Richard Carvath in a wardrobe is with a beautiful and willing young woman!"

Um - I thought you were celibate Richard?
