The Ring & Ride service provides an essential door-to-door minibus transport service for people of all ages, including children, who find it difficult to use ordinary public transport. There are currently 75 high quality accessible vehicles run from 8 depots across Greater Manchester. 3. The service is principally used by people over 60 years of age and 75% of the users are female. People who use the service have a wide range of mobility impairments including mental as well as physical disabilities. 30,000 passengers are currently registered with the service and wheelchair passenger journeys account for 7.2% of all journeys. 4. Passengers travel more during the week than at weekends with Sunday being the quietest day. The service normally operates between 8am and 11pm with 44% of journeys made between 10am and 3pm. 91% of passengers hold a pass issued by TfGM. 5. 77% of its income comes from the 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester and the charity continues to face difficult financial and operational challenges, with a £1.9m cut in its grant funding over the last 4 years. Passengers are charged a fare of £2 (concessions £1) per single journey. 6. This year a 6 mile maximum trip limit was introduced to meet budgetary pressures. 7. Further cuts are being considered for 2015/16 including reducing the maximum trip to 5 miles; removal of the Saturday and/or Sunday service; increasing fares; reducing the evening service to 7pm; and reducing the number of drivers and vehicles. 8. Community forums have been arranged in all 10 local authorities during October and MPs, Councillors and users of the service are welcome to attend. 9. STAND UP TO UKIP

Stand up to UKIP — say no to racism We are deeply concerned by the rising level of support for UKIP, shown in recent elections and opinion polls. UKIP is a far-right populist party. It similar to far-right populist parties across Europe — such as Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV) in the Netherlands — and the Tea Party movement in the US. Like these parties, UKIP stirs up racism and reactionary views. It scapegoats immigrants, blaming them for the economic crisis, unemployment and lack of housing. UKIP has also targeted Muslims, LGBT people and other minority communities. It attacks our multicultural society. It encourages a racist and reactionary current of public opinion that threatens black and Asian people, Jewish people, Eastern Europeans, LGBT people and others. The problems we confront are not due to immigration, our multicultural society, equal rights, or the influence of supposedly ‘alien’ ideas or culture. The bankers and their rich City friends are to blame for the economic crisis and austerity. Creating division and hatred in our communities will make life worse for everyone. We believe people of goodwill must come together to stand up to UKIP and say no to its racism and reactionary ideas — regardless of our differing views on Europe or other political issues. If we do not, there is a danger that UKIP will grow in influence. This will give increasing legitimacy to its racist scapegoating, which in turn will have an impact on mainstream politics. Such a climate of racist and reactionary ideas also creates a fertile breeding ground for fascist organisations, such as the British National Party and the English Defence League. We call on all those who reject racism, scapegoating and xenophobic nationalism to join us in campaigning against UKIP. Let’s say no to racism and stand up for our multicultural society.

Thoughts of a UKIP member!

So Joe O'Neil has left the Green Party & joined UKIP. See below his thoughts on UKIP from his blog! UKIP have the voters of this country really taken a closer look? Posted on May 6, 2013 by mole45 I took some time out the other day just to look a little closer,i mean lets be honest the Tory leader is today like a rabbit stuck in the headlights of an on coming car utterly clueless of what to do.does he go right does he go left or wait for the collision and asses the injuries. The Party in reality is picking the bones of policies that if you look a little closer reek of a certain party none of us in polite circles like to mention and the rest sound bites of all the goodies people want to hear and not a bloody clue how to pay for. When i Joined the Liberal Democrats people from the Tory ranks tossed out the usual insult of the dustbin party the place where all the protest votes go,well lets hope People realise UKIP are a party of characters that have been highlighted very strongly over the past month and need closer scrutiny and the votes they receive could leave us in a very dangerous situation, check out utube and the attacks on the UKIP leader for not even turning up for debates and other UKIP members sound asleep and these are the people you voted for?In Salford they failed miserably even though they put out candidates in most wards lets hope that people across the country follow Salford’s lead and confine UKIP to where it belongs. Vote how you feel fit but vote for the policies that will benefit us in the long term people who offer the earth normally fall flat on their face the following week. Surely this sums up UKIP…. Posted on August 26, 2013 by mole45 Even Nigel Farage admits they need to “get a grip on things”. Because this is the month when politics goes on holiday, when politicians generally have no more to worry about than flying eggs and portly tummies, yet Ukip have been making crises for themselves on an almost hourly basis. Crash! One of the party’s leading figures, Godfrey Bloom, has to apologise for the racist overtones in his speech on foreign aid. Clang! Ukip is revealed to be using a psychometric exam – dubbed “the fruitcake test” – to sift the nuttier nutters from among its candidates. Bonk! The party’s new chief executive, Will Gilpin, steps down just eight months into the job. Ouch! Gilpin derides Ukip’s shambolic practices behind the scenes, calling the party “a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs”. Smash! Feeling ignored, Bloom swings back in with a radio interview in which he says that employers should be able to sack women for becoming pregnant. (Women are also good in pantries but bad at parking, we hear.) Splat! The party’s assistant treasurer, Hugh Williams, is found to have written a book in which he explains, among other things, that people make too much fuss about the child abuse perpetrated by the Catholic church and that, when you look at it, the Nazis had a bad rap too. So it just shows how unprincipled & cynical some people can be.

Concern over local UKIP candidate.

One of UKIP’s European candidates was suspended and then quit as a councillor after he removed hundreds of completed electoral registration forms from a town hall. Shneur Odze — previously a Tory councillor in Hackney but now fourth on the UKIP MEP list in the North West — scarpered with the sack full of confidential papers in October 2002. Odze had his council security pass revoked after he refused to admit to the breach, eventually confessing in an interview with Metropolitan Police – claiming that he was trying to highlight lax security arrangements. Rather than discuss his concerns with council officers, however, Cllr Odze nicked the papers before delivering them to the, errrr, Hackney Gazette. He initially escaped punishment, but was eventually suspended by the Standards Committee for failing to complete a supervised ethics training programme. Odze is currently making headlines for his refusal to shake the hands of women voters or UKIP activists, citing his religious views. Good to see that new “rigorous candidate vetting process” is working then. http://politicalscrapbook.net/2014/02/ukip-mep-candidate-stole-completed-election-registration-papers/shneur-odze-nigel-farage-speech-bubble
